This article is a post that comes from Greening Forward’s legacy blog. It was originally written on February 4, 2012.

The title of this blog actually refers to Minneapolis, one of the Twin Cities in Minnesota. Why am I talking about Minneapolis all of a sudden? Well, I moved here a couple of days back for my first full-time job. I’ll be doing my training here for around 4 months and then I’ll have the choice to stay here or move to another city that is preferably within proximity of our clients’ projects.

I live in the heart of downtown and it really is a nice city. Everything that I need is within walking distance. That’s what makes it different from Atlanta (where I’ve lived for the past 4 years), which is much more spread out. Atlanta certainly has a special place in my heart and I will most likely move back, but there are things that make Minneapolis a nicer city. There is a noticeable green initiative here with an extensive public transport network as well as a nationally recognized Bicycling community (one of the best in the country). The twin cities have a great integrated public transportation network that includes buses, light rails, and commuter trains. Customers make over 78 million bus trips a year. Yes, 78 MILLION! The providers, Metro Transit, are one of the largest in the country.

Overall, Minneapolis is a great city that is clearly making an effort to be as eco-friendly as it can. I hope that other cities in the country, and even the world, model themselves after this initiative. I’m still finding my way around here, but I’m sure that I’ll fit in and enjoy myself.
